Autumn Tigers (2021)
Curated by Jenelle Pasiechnik
As installed at Campbell River Art Gallery (Campbell River, Canada)
Dimensions: 1476 square feet

Autumn Tigers explores the history of anti-Asian racism and celebrates the intercultural exchange, labour, and life of Chinese Canadians who have thrived despite the pressures of systemic racism, violence, and discrimination. It comes out of a period of reflection and research on Chinatowns and on the xenophobic attacks against Asian Canadians due to fears about COVID. Besides my own works (textiles, installation, sound, sculptures), I also borrowed historical objects and photographs from the Nanaimo Museum and the Cumberland Museum and Archives. In addition, I invited Tlingit master carver Tommy Joseph to show two of his replica historical Tlinglit slat and coin armour (one of which was made by his wife, Kristina Cranston).

Art Canada Institute is also hosting the Autumn Tiger online exhibition with an essay by Dr. Imogene Lim: VIEW HERE
